Gautam Buddha Airport, also known as Bhairahawa Airport, is an airport serving Bhairahawa, in Lumbini, western Nepal. As the name suggests, this airport lies very close to (about 20 minutes drive away from) the Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini. There are regular flights in and out of Kathmandu. Flight time is about 35 minutes from Kathmandu.
Bhairahawa is also a major trade hub between Nepal and India, and you will see a huge bustle of activity at the border there. Like all Terai towns, Bhairahawa and nearby Lumbini, can get very hot in the summer. In Lumbini, and in Bhairahawa, there are plenty of good options for accommodation, with amenities including swimming pools.
